My small town of no more than 13,000 people, according to Mactrotrends.net, had a crime rate of 432.93 out of 100,000 in 2018. Growing up in the small town of Athens, Texas, was quiet and quaint. Until I was old enough to notice the adults hungrily staring at me. The uncomfortable comments, unwanted groping, and malicious intent of so many led me to believe Athens was cursed. Hey, it made sense to 14-year-old me. Around the age of 14, a girl went missing from my town. She still has not been found. Her case never received the attention it should have, and pressure on the police force is nonexistent.
